Jason R. Melzer is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department.
Experience
Jason is a trial attorney with extensive experience litigating commercial disputes, including shareholder/partnership disputes, business “divorces,” commercial foreclosures, securities litigation and arbitration, alternative dispute resolution, professional liability and debt collection. Jason also has significant experience litigating employment matters and has successfully enforced and opposed restrictive covenants. Jason regularly litigates matters in the Chancery Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey and the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court in New York and successfully counsels his business clients through some of the most trying and complex situations business owners can encounter. Jason practices in all trial and appellate levels in the both the state and federal courts of New Jersey and New York.
Jason is also a member of the firm’s Discovery Services department and has taken an active role to ensure that the firm remains at the forefront of developing technologies that ensures the most efficient and targeted approach to the discovery process and helps to insulate clients from the hazards that can result from the rapidly changing legal landscape concerning e-discovery and retention of electronic records.
Representative Matters
Jason’s representative matters include:
- Successfully obtained injunctive relief against transfers of collateral in connection with a $36 million commercial UCC foreclosure;
- Successfully enforced a restrictive covenant and confidentiality agreement, protecting a preeminent international primary market research firm from a potentially crippling disclosure of propriety information;
- Successfully argued a case of first impression before the Supreme Court of New Jersey, preventing the State from unfairly denying a client’s Second Amendment rights; and
- Represented hundreds of “route salesman” in a class action litigation against one of the largest bottled water companies in the country, resulting in a successful settlement.
