Caught on Doorbell Camera! Infringement of Skybell Technologies Patents!
The Cole Schotz team convinced a jury in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas that Vivint willfully infringed two of SkyBell Technologies, Inc.’s patents related to video doorbell security systems. Bot Home Automation, the maker of industry leader Ring video doorbells, is one of the companies that licenses SkyBell’s technology, making such patents vital to the firm’s business. Vivint is a competitor in the home security and alarm industry, and doorbell cameras are a key component of their products as well. The verdict was announced on October 23, 2023, following three years of litigation. Cole Schotz secured a $45.4 million patent infringement verdict on behalf of SB IP Holdings, subsidiary to SkyBell Technologies, Inc. Gary Sorden of Cole Schotz led the matter and told Reuters the jury’s verdict, “truly speaks for itself, and we think they got it 100% right.” Cole Schotz’s Gary Sorden, James Perkins, Tim Craddock, Vishal Patel, Kumar Vinnakota, Brian King, Arjun Padmanabhan, Seokin Yeh, Amanda DeGroote, Ian Phillips, and Gail Ashby served as representatives on this matter.
