Former Acting US Atty Talks Leading Cole Schotz’s DC Launch
Earlier this month, Cole Schotz PC announced the firm opened an office in Washington, D.C., led by a longtime government attorney who most recently served as the acting U.S. attorney for the District of Maryland.
White collar and government investigations member Phil Selden joined Cole Schotz after 15 years mostly spent working in a variety of assistant U.S. attorney roles in Maryland, New York and Washington, D.C.
During his time working for the U.S. Department of Justice, Selden worked on a wide range of cases in areas such as fraud by corporate entities and senior executives, healthcare fraud, cybercrime, procurement fraud, corrupt public and elected officials, money laundering and intellectual property theft, the firm said.
Selden also has substantial experience teaching law, having spent time conducting different courses at Howard University School of Law, University of Maryland’s Francis King Carey School of Law, Harvard Law School and George Washington University Law School, according to his LinkedIn page.
The firm said its launch in the nation’s capital follows the addition of two other attorneys, Jeffrey Saltman, who also joined the firm as a member, and Alexa Reed, an associate. Both Saltman and Reed joined Cole Schotz from Fisch Sigler LLP, according to their LinkedIn profiles.
Selden spoke with Law360 Pulse on Thursday about his first few weeks leading the D.C. office, his reasons behind joining Cole Schotz and his government experience. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.
