‘Came Back to Haunt Him’: White-Collar Lawyers Address Bankman-Fried’s 25-Year Sentence
In sentencing FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried to 25 years in federal prison on Thursday, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan of the Southern District of New York considered not only the amount of money lost in the cryptocurrency empire’s collapse but also Bankman-Fried’s acceptance of responsibility and honesty.
His findings were not positive, white-collar attorneys observed later in the day Thursday.
“It was very clear … that the judge really went at Sam Bankman-Fried and just felt that he was a liar and wasn’t remorseful and that his testimony really came back to haunt him, not only during the trial but during sentencing as well,” Cole Schotz partner Michael Weinstein said.
