Mia A. Ritota represents businesses, developers, lenders, fiduciaries, property owners, and individuals in complex commercial, trust and estate, intellectual property, and real estate disputes.
EXPERIENCE
Mia’s practice focuses on commercial litigation, trust and estate litigation, intellectual property disputes, real estate and redevelopment litigation, creditor’s rights matters, and complex Chancery Division proceedings. She assists clients through every stage of litigation, from pre-suit evaluation and strategic case assessment through discovery, dispositive motion practice, trial preparation, appeals, and post-judgment enforcement.
Mia represents clients in a broad range of matters involving commercial contracts, business torts, shareholder and partnership disputes, fiduciary litigation, contested trust and estate matters, restrictive covenants, trademark issues, creditor remedies, foreclosure-related litigation, redevelopment projects, and other high-stakes business and personal controversies. She works closely with clients to develop litigation strategies that protect their interests while advancing their broader objectives.
Prior to joining Cole Schotz, Mia served as a law clerk to the Honorable James J. DeLuca, J.S.C., New Jersey Superior Court, Bergen County, Chancery Division, and to the Honorable Lisa Perez Friscia, J.A.D., New Jersey Superior Court, Chancery and Appellate Divisions. Her clerkship experience provides valuable insight into both trial-level and appellate decision-making, particularly in matters involving fiduciary disputes, equitable remedies, business litigation, and other complex Chancery Division proceedings.
REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS
- Member of trial team that secured a favorable judgment in a multi-year trademark dispute involving intellectual property rights and competing trademark registrations, resulting in the cancellation of the opposing party’s trademark registrations.
- Assisted in obtaining dismissal of claims in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Chancery Division, through enforcement of a contractual forum-selection clause.
- Experience representing developers in litigation arising from redevelopment projects and related commercial disputes.
- Member of litigation team representing court-appointed fiduciaries in contested guardianship proceedings involving complex fiduciary and estate-related disputes.
- Experience representing businesses, property owners, fiduciaries, and affiliated entities in arbitration, mediation, and complex commercial litigation.
Education
Mia earned her B.A. in Psychology from The College of New Jersey, and her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University.
During law school, Mia was a Merit Scholarship recipient, completed two internships with the New Jersey Superior Court, Bergen County, Chancery Division, and also interned with the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor.
