Mr. Williams’ experience includes developing and executing strategies to assist clients in intellectual property and commercial litigation matters.  “James has deep experience advising clients on significant IP matters across numerous industries, which allows for deep partnership with various clients in forming a strategy for success,” said Gary Sorden, a Dallas-based member at Cole Schotz and co-chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property practice. “His experience and skillset strengthen the firm’s intellectual property capabilities and expertise nationwide and we look forward to having him join the firm.”

Mr. Williams represents both plaintiffs and defendants, including in multi-claim and multi-jurisdictional competitor disputes. As a registered patent attorney, he also represents patent owners and petitioners in disputes before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

“I am thrilled to be joining such a deep bench of business-focused intellectual property attorneys across the firm and joining an incredibly talented group of colleagues in Dallas,” said Mr. Williams. “The firm has earned a reputation for punching above its weight by crafting innovative litigation strategies and identifying practical solutions to solve its clients’ most pressing problems.”

Mr. Williams joins the firm from international law firm Baker Botts LLP, where he practiced for 14 years. He is admitted to the Texas State Bar and has appeared before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas. Mr. Williams is also a member of the Dallas Bar Association.

He earned his J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law and his B.S.E in electrical engineering from Princeton University.
