Cole Schotz Lands Baker Botts IP Litigator In Dallas
Cole Schotz PC has bolstered its litigation and intellectual property departments with the addition of a member in Dallas who came aboard from Baker Botts LLP.
James C. Williams brings expertise handling intellectual property and commercial litigation matters, particularly patent and trade secret claims, the firm said in a statement on Monday. Williams has experience with copyright, unfair competition, breach of contract, fraud, tortious interference and other business tort claims often arising from intellectual property disputes, the firm said.
Williams told Law360 Pulse on Tuesday that “one of the important parts of my practice has always been complex and high-stakes, bet-the-company intellectual property cases.”
“That is right in the wheelhouse for Cole Schotz,” Williams said. “The firm has a depth of talent and experience to litigate across forums,” such as district courts, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board and the U.S. International Trade Commission.
Williams said his practice matches the skills of many of the firm’s lawyers and that he looks forward to teaming up with them.
“It’s just a really good match,” Williams said. “I’m impressed with the skills of their attorneys and the caliber of work they’re doing.”
Williams’ practice includes both plaintiff and defense work, including in multi-claim and multi-jurisdictional competitor disputes, the firm said. Williams is a registered patent attorney and represents patent owners and petitioners in disputes before the PTAB, the firm said.
