Cole Schotz Attorney, Irv Walker, Named USA Restructuring Lawyer of the Year

Cole Schotz P.C. is pleased to announce that Irving E. Walker, head of the firm’s Baltimore, Maryland office, has been recognized by Global M&A Network’s Turnaround Atlas Awards as the mid-market 2019 USA Restructuring Lawyer of the Year. This marks the first time that a lawyer from Baltimore has received this award.

The Global M&A Network’s annual Turnaround Atlas Awards recognize excellence in the categories of transactions, outstanding firms, and top professionals. The USA Restructuring Lawyer of the Year distinction honors professionals from the restructuring industries for their record of executing transactions of behalf of the clients. Award recipients were honored at the 11th Annual Gala and Ceremony on May 20 in New York City.

For nearly four decades, Walker has represented debtors, creditors’ committees, trustees, and other interested parties in bankruptcy cases, out-of-court restructurings, and litigation arising out of distressed or failed businesses. His litigation experience includes precedent-setting cases at the trial and appellate court levels, including the U.S. Supreme Court.

The firm was also honored for its involvement in a number of transactions including:

• Cross Border M&A Deal of the Year for the over $100 million category for its representation of the chapter 11 debtor in the Videology sale to Amobee, a subsidiary of Singapore Telecommunications, with engagement led by Walker;
• Cross-Border Deal of the Year in the below $50 million category for its representation of the lender in the PhaseRx Chapter 11 restructuring and acquisition by Roivant Sciences;
• Cross-Border Deal of the Year in the $1 to 5 billion category for its representation of Honda in the Takata Corporation restructuring and sale of assets to Key Safety Systems.
