Sean Hsu is a licensed patent and cybersecurity attorney whose practice focuses on helping companies strategically protect their valuable intellectual property and data.
Trained in electrical engineering, Sean is well qualified to represent the intellectual property and commercial needs of clients—from licensing and portfolio management to litigation and commercial disputes.
Sean has handled legal matters in a variety of industries, including semiconductors, telecommunications, biomedical devices, software and embedded systems. As a registered attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Sean has represented clients in Inter Partes Reviews before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board during district court litigation. This dual role helps clients efficiently and consistently prepare their cases.
Prior to joining Cole Schotz, Sean worked at both large and boutique trial law firms in Dallas, Texas, where he represented clients from solo inventors to Fortune 500 companies.
Sean holds CIPP/US and CIPM certifications with the International Association of Privacy Professionals. He is a member of various business organizations in North Texas, as well as minority chambers of commerce, and volunteers on their boards to serve as a resource for the business community.
Sean graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2003 and received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in microprocessor programming and biomedical engineering. He received his law degree from SMU Dedman School of Law in 2007.
Sean’s professional recognitions include his selection as a Texas Super Lawyer (2021) and Rising Star (2010, 2019, 2020) in the area of intellectual property litigation.
