October 17, 2019Attorneys: Reuben G. Muller and Geoffrey Weinstein
In 2018, the IRS discontinued the Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program that had been in place for a decade and had raised millions of dollars for the government. In its place, the IRS has implemented a new voluntary disclosure policy. The program will address how to address past non-compliance with international tax requirements using the different options currently offered by the IRS. The program will also discuss recent developments related to international tax penalties and practical pointers in dealing with international examinations. International tax reporting is complex and the penalties for failing to file required returns can be exorbitant. Understanding these issues is vital to successfully defend taxpayers and to mitigate their penalty exposure.
