Gary Sorden Recognized for Dealmaking Excellence in Texas Lawyer’s 2022 Awards

Cole Schotz P.C. is excited to share that Dallas-based member Gary Sorden has been named among the “Most Effective Deal-Makers” in the Texas Lawyer’s 2022 Texas Legal Awards. He will be recognized at an awards dinner on September 14, 2022 at the Arts District Mansion in Dallas.

“Texas Lawyer is honoring those attorneys and judges who have made a remarkable difference in the legal profession in Texas – whether in shaping the law, achieving outsized results for their clients, being an outstanding jurist or assisting those in need of legal services,” the publication stated.

Mr. Sorden joined Cole Schotz in 2019 to help grow its intellectual property practice and further strengthen the firm’s anchor in the Texas market. Over the past year, he has worked on a substantial amount of patent sales, patent licensing agreements, and patent licenses involving business components including supplier to manufacturing relationships both in litigation and outside of litigation.

As a natural dealmaker, Mr. Sorden is known for his ability to creatively structure and consummate deals, forward his clients’ goals, and provide aggressive advocacy in the courtroom when necessary. His clients regularly rely upon his “every deal is different” approach in high-value negotiations.

His recent transactional work has ranged from representing a patent seller in a transaction that was completed involving two operating companies and which closed for an undisclosed eight-figure sum to advising a large operating company in non-litigation patent licensing with another large operating entity, which resulted in a cross license between the entities involving thousands of patents.

Mr. Sorden not only excels in his ability to find creative and effective strategies to support his clients’ goals, but also in his ability to attract and retain top-tier talent for the firm. He has grown the Texas intellectual property team by attracting multiple new members with an altogether impressive depth of knowledge.
