Veteran Cole Schotz Attorney David Dean Joins Delaware Office

Cole Schotz P.C. is pleased to announce that it is growing its Wilmington office with the arrival of longtime firm member David Dean. Mr. Dean, co-deputy chair of the Bankruptcy & Corporate Restructuring department and member of the Litigation department, comes from the firm’s Baltimore office where he had worked since its opening in 2008.

Mr. Dean joins a team of lawyers who are highly experienced in the areas of complex commercial litigation and bankruptcy, including members Norman Pernick, Michael Bonkowski, Kate Stickles, Patrick Reilley and Nicholas Brannick.

“David is an outstanding talent who has earned the confidence of his clients and respect of his colleagues firm-wide through his exceptional work,” said Mr. Pernick, who leads the Delaware office and is co-chair of the firm’s Bankruptcy & Corporate Restructuring Department. “He has a remarkable track record in bankruptcy and complex commercial litigation cases, and will enhance the services we provide to our clients with business interests in Delaware.”

Described by clients in Chambers and Partners as “fantastic” and “always on top of things,” Mr. Dean focuses his practice on corporate bankruptcy and complex litigation. His arrival will help grow the office’s litigation capabilities and offer a wide range of litigation services for clients in bankruptcy and Delaware federal courts and state courts, and the Delaware Court of Chancery.

“Moving to Delaware affords me an opportunity to grow my practice in a state that draws complex litigation and bankruptcy cases from all over the country,” Mr. Dean said. “I had been taking on an increasing amount of work in the Delaware courts and have no hesitation that this move will benefit me, the firm and our clients.”

Mr. Dean’s recent work in the state includes representing technology companies SNMP Research, Inc. and SNMP Research International, Inc. in litigation against Nortel Networks and Avaya, Inc. in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, in claims for copyright infringement, trade secret misappropriation and breach of contract.

Mr. Dean, who previously served as chair of the Baltimore Chapter of the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the District of Maryland and is currently the organization’s assistant secretary, will also continue to practice in Baltimore.

Cole Schotz’ Delaware attorneys frequently serve as lead, special, and conflicts counsel in a wide range of complex litigation, corporate restructuring and bankruptcy matters. Mr. Dean’s arrival to the Delaware office comes on the heels of bankruptcy associate Katherine Devanney joining the office in December.
