Laurence May is a member in the firm's Bankruptcy & Corporate Restructuring Department. From 1990 until January 2006, Mr. May was a member of Angel & Frankel, P.C., a nationally prominent bankruptcy boutique law firm. Effective January 2006, Angel & Frankel, P.C. combined its practice with the firm.
Mr. May has served as lead debtor's counsel in numerous successful reorganizations, including: Ultra Stores, Inc., a retail jewelry chain of over 120 stores; Gulf U.S.A. Corporation, the largest reorganization to take place in the Idaho bankruptcy court; PT-1 Communications, Inc.; Precision Machine, Tool & Die Co., Inc.; Datapoint Corporation; Citipostal, Inc.; and McCrory Parent Corporation. In addition, he has represented landlords in numerous large retail bankruptcies including Kmart Corporation, Wiz Corporation and General Cinema Corporation, and purchasers of assets from Chapter 11 debtors and Chapter 7 trustees. He has also represented creditors with substantial interests in such mega-bankruptcy cases as Adelphia Corporation, ANC Rental Car Corporation and Delta Airlines. Mr. May has argued important bankruptcy issues before the United States Courts of Appeals for the Second, Third and Ninth Circuits.
Mr. May has served on various continuing legal education panels sponsored by, among other organizations, the Practising Law Institute.
Noteworthy
Mr. May has been awarded an AV rating for his professionalism and the quality of his legal work from Martindale-Hubbell, the premier directory of legal professionals. He has been selected by his peers for inclusion in the prestigious 2007 and 2008 Best Lawyers in America in Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights Law. He was also named a New York Super Lawyer in 2008.
