Jan Alan Lewis is a member of the Real Estate Department, concentrating in commercial office and industrial leasing. He has handled various complex real estate transactions on behalf of prominent owners, developers and companies throughout the United States. He has considerable experience in commercial leasing, both office and industrial, representing both landlords and tenants. On behalf of landlords, he handles leases on a local, regional and national basis. He has frequently been called to act as local counsel to represent tenants with respect to their leases in the Tri-State Area. Mr. Lewis’ responsibilities have included the preparation, review and negotiation of leases and related documents for commercial (including office, industrial, warehouse and retail) and residential properties, brokerage agreements, and contracts of sale for the purchase and sale of commercial and residential properties. Among his recent accomplishments were:

  • negotiated a 200,000 square foot office lease on behalf of the tenant, a publicly traded pharmaceutical company, in Montvale, NJ
  • negotiated a lease for the tenant in its relocation from New York to a 55,000 square foot office/warehouse facility in Secaucus, NJ
  • negotiated a 30,000 square foot office lease for the tenant in its relocation from New York to Parsippany, NJ
  • negotiated a 25,000 square foot retail lease for the landlord with Prada for its flagship store in the SoHo district of New York City
  • negotiated a 25,000 square foot retail lease for the landlord with Forever 21 for its store in the SoHo district of New York City
  • negotiated a sublease on behalf of the subtenant for approximately 20,000 square foot of office space located on Madison Avenue in midtown Manhattan
  • negotiated a 31,000 square foot sublease for the sublandlord, a publicly traded shipping company, in East Rutherford, NJ

He began his legal career as Assistant Vice President in the Legal Division of the Facilities Planning Department of Shearson Lehman Brothers Inc. Prior to joining the firm in 1994, Mr. Lewis was an associate at two prominent New York City law firms.

Mr. Lewis was a contributing editor to the Real Estate Law Journal and is a frequent lecturer at New York University School of Continuing Education - The Real Estate Institute regarding commercial leasing.

Noteworthy

Mr. Lewis has been awarded an AV rating for his professionalism and the quality of his legal work from Martindale-Hubbell, the premier directory of legal professionals.
