Jan Alan Lewis is a member of the Real Estate Department, concentrating in commercial office and industrial leasing. He has handled various complex real estate transactions on behalf of prominent owners, developers and companies throughout the United States. He has considerable experience in commercial leasing, both office and industrial, representing both landlords and tenants. On behalf of landlords, he handles leases on a local, regional and national basis. He has frequently been called to act as local counsel to represent tenants with respect to their leases in the Tri-State Area. Mr. Lewis’ responsibilities have included the preparation, review and negotiation of leases and related documents for commercial (including office, industrial, warehouse and retail) and residential properties, brokerage agreements, and contracts of sale for the purchase and sale of commercial and residential properties. Among his recent accomplishments were:

• negotiated a 154,000 square foot office lease on behalf of the tenant, a publicly traded healthcare company, in Somerset, NJ (one of New Jersey's largest office leases in the past 3 years)
• negotiated an extension of a 130,000 square foot office lease for the landlord with Scholastic Inc. in the SoHo district of New York City
• negotiated an extension and expansion of a 160,000 square foot industrial lease for the landlord with Bio-Reference Laboratories, in Elmwood Park, NJ
• negotiated a 200,000 square foot office lease on behalf of the tenant, a publicly traded pharmaceutical company, in Montvale, NJ (nominated for "Deal of the Year" by the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties) 
• negotiated a lease for the tenant in its relocation from New York to a 55,000 square foot office/warehouse facility in Secaucus, NJ 
• negotiated a 25,000 square foot retail lease for the landlord with Prada for its flagship store in the SoHo district of New York City
• negotiated a 25,000 square foot retail lease for the landlord with Forever 21 for its store in the SoHo district of New York City

He began his legal career as Assistant Vice President in the Legal Division of the Facilities Planning Department of Shearson Lehman Brothers Inc. Prior to joining the firm in 1994, Mr. Lewis was an associate at two prominent New York City law firms.

Mr. Lewis was a contributing editor to the Real Estate Law Journal and is a frequent lecturer at New York University School of Continuing Education - The Real Estate Institute regarding commercial leasing.

Mr. Lewis has been awarded an AV rating for his professionalism and the quality of his legal work from Martindale-Hubbell, the premier directory of legal professionals.  He was selected for inclusion in New Jersey Super Lawyers® in 2008-2011.

Jan Alan Lewis has also been included in 201 Magazine's list of Top Lawyers in Bergen County for 2011. He has been selected for inclusion in the 2012 edition of the Best Lawyers in America®.
