Morrill Cole, a Certified Civil Trial Attorney, is the senior litigator in the firm. Prior to joining the firm in 1955, he spent two years on the Harvard Law School faculty teaching in programs focused on litigation skills. He has practiced law with the firm since returning to New Jersey in 1955.
Mr. Cole has been involved in the trial of significant litigation since joining the firm. His trial work has focused primarily in the commercial and business area. His cases have involved antitrust claims, trademark and unfair competition claims, disputed control of closely held corporations, securities fraud and a broad range of business litigation. Mr. Cole combines the practice of corporate and commercial litigation with transactional work and counseling in the conception and formation of businesses.
Over the years, Mr. Cole has worked in a broad variety of civic matters. While in Paterson, New Jersey, he served as Chairman of the Community Relations Committee of the Paterson Jewish Community Council. He was a founder of the Paterson Task Force for Community Affairs, the local arm of President Johnson's Anti-Poverty Program. He served as Chairman of Paterson's Redevelopment Agency initiating much of the Urban Renewal infrastructure and office and housing construction developed in Paterson in the 1970s.
Mr. Cole served for many years on the Passaic County Ethics Committee and on the New Jersey Supreme Court's Committee on the Unauthorized Practice of Law.
Noteworthy
Mr. Cole has been honored consistently with peer recognition as an outstanding litigator. The Best Lawyers of America directory has listed him in their Commercial Litigation section every year since it started publication in 1987. For the past three years, Mr. Cole's name has been included in the "Bet-The-Company" and Appellate Law sections of the publication. He was named a New Jersey Super Lawyer in Business Litigation. In 1992 he received the Trial Bar Award for Distinguished Service in the Cause of Justice from the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey. In 1995 he was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers.
In 1998, Mr. Cole was honored by the New Jersey State Bar Association with its Professional Lawyer of the Year Award, on recommendation of the Bergen County Bar Association to the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law. He was the recipient of the Professional Lawyer of the Year Award 1999 - Bergen County Bar Association, and the Bergen County Bar Foundation Attorney Achievement Award in 2000.
Mr. Cole has been awarded an AV rating for his professionalism and the quality of his legal work from Martindale-Hubbell, the premier directory of legal professionals.
