Emily S. Chou, a special counsel of the Firm, practices in the areas of bankruptcy, general corporate law, and business litigation. She has developed experience in complex preference litigation matters, with potential liability often in the millions of dollars. Ms. Chou regularly represents Fortune-50 clients in significant avoidance action litigation (preference and fraudulent transfers) throughout the Country.

Ms. Chou is currently lead counsel to the Post-Confirmation Trust established in two major Chapter 11 cases (one in Delaware and one in Massachusetts) handing and supervising post-confirmation litigation of avoidance actions and the claims administration process in both cases.

Before attending law school, Ms. Chou worked overseas gaining valuable experience in international business transactions. Ms. Chou was the contract negotiator for a property management company responsible for a fourteen-story office building in downtown Taipei, Taiwan, and in such capacity negotiated, drafted and executed lease contracts with multinational firms including Intel, Lockheed-Martin, Pratt & Whitney, GEC Alsthom, the Consulate Office of the Republic of France, and the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa.

Upon admission to the State Bar of Texas, Ms. Chou worked on the plaintiffs’ discovery team in the matter of United States ex rel Benjamin John, Jr., et al. v. Shell Oil Company, et al., filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. She assisted in discovery and trial preparation of this federal whistle-blower action, which is the largest and most extensive case of its kind ever filed in the U.S., with potential liability in excess of $1 billion.

Ms. Chou was born in Taipei, Taiwan, and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and French. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin (B.A., economics, with honors, 1991) and from the University of Texas School of Law (J.D., 1998). Ms. Chou is admitted to practice law in Texas.
